"There is such a dynamic and unique group of retailers in the area to make a wedding unique and exactly what a bride wants. You need an event like a wedding walk to pull it all together."

The other participants include Deans Fine Clothing for tuxedos, BriZan Couture for bridesmaids' dresses, jewelry and keepsakes by Maclyn, Sugar Monkey for favors, ZaZu Salon for hair, and so much more. Sullivan's Steakhouse will now show its private dining room, which can be available rehearsal dinners or showers, while Peterson Wine Cellars will be offering a tasting.

The walk is hosted by the Naperville Convention and Visitors Bureau. The area hotels and venues will have staff in various businesses to answer particular questions. Many merchants are now offering raffles and special deals for the event as well. There are stays at hotels, limousine packages, and other great prizes to be had.

The event was started in 2012 when several of the businesses took Kati Wood, executive of the Downtown Naperville Alliance, on her suggestion. Nearly 30 businesses and 75 brides attended the initial event.

"So many of the businesses downtown cater to brides and grooms," Wood said. "The walk is simple, easy and free. Brides can go about it at their own pace and pick out the businesses that are relevant to them."

"I think it is a really nice way for brides to see all the unique things Naperville has to offer," said Kellyn Machacek, owner of Baubles by Maclyn, which makes custom wedding bands and jewelry from coins acquired on a honeymoon. Baubles is giving free stud pearl or cubic zirconia earrings to the first 20 brides visiting the store.

"Small boutiques can cater to brides so they don't have the cookie cutter stuff they see everywhere," she said.
