South Shore Chamber of Commerce to relocate headquarters to Rockland; new home seen as central and convenient for members as Chamber expands its growth initiatives

QUINCY AND ROCKLAND, MA, (PRBuzz.com) May 10, 2013 -- The South Shore Chamber of Commerce, the region's largest Chamber, will relocate its headquarters from Quincy to Rockland, MA in June of this year.

The announcement was made today by South Shore Chamber of Commerce CEO Peter Forman, who stated that the Chamber's new home will be at 1050 Hingham Street (Route 228), Rockland, with convenient access to the Route 3 (Exit 14) interchange.

Forman said, "In planning the relocation, we took into account that we serve businesses and communities across the entire South Shore, and our membership extends from Quincy to Plymouth and beyond." He added, "The Rockland location is a convenient and central setting, and will help us as we look to strengthen and grow our membership throughout the South Shore."

Forman said the Chamber's Board of Directors and leadership believe that the location will provide a central, highly visible, easily accessible and well-branded location for its members to meet, gather and work.

The Chamber will host an Open House later this year to welcome members and visitors to the new location. "We are very excited to be coming to Rockland," said Forman, noting, "This is geographically central to our footprint and in an area that holds the great potential for growth of membership." He added, "We are not aligned with any one city or town and will continue to hold events and work to promote economic growth throughout our region as we have in the past."

Henderson Properties raises $7,661 for Type 1 Diabetes Research

(PRBuzz.com) May 10, 2013 -- On Saturday, Henderson Properties, a full service real estate firm based in Charlotte, participated in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes at Carowinds amusement park.

The team, named "Blake's Buddies", used the walk as an opportunity to contribute to Henderson Properties' fundraising for Type 1 diabetes research. At this point, the firm has raised $7,661.50.

Diagnoses of Type 1 Diabetes are steadily increasing by three percent every year. Currently, about five out of every 1,500 children are living with the life threatening disease, according to Dr. Mark Vanderwel, a pediatrics specialist in Charlotte.

"We haven't really seen a lot of the things that have pointed to why diabetes is a little more common now, even then it was two decades ago," said Vanderwel.

Blake's Buddies, comprised of Henderson Properties staff and family members and friends, hopes to accelerate the progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating and preventing T1D.

The team is named for Blake Henderson, a 17 year old high school football state champion, who has battled T1D since the age of seven. Blake's strength and his proactive attitude to address his condition is the inspiration behind the team's fundraising efforts.

The staff members from Henderson Properties who represented "Blake's Buddies" during the walk included: Amber Callan, Jeanie Colvin, Stella Jalon, Scott Negley, Heather Todd and Shelly and Phil Henderson. The team distinguished themselves from other teams by dressing in camouflage.

"It's good to know that we are a team, both at work and outside of work," said Shelly Henderson, of Henderson Properties. "We are already looking forward to raising more money during next year's walk and eventually reaching our goal of $15,000 collected in one year."
