APPLETON, Wis. ( April 11, 2013 -- The roof on your home or business serves as your first line of defense against the elements. So when a storm wrecks havoc on your property, it is important to have the damage assessed properly in order to prevent further disrepair.

For nearly a decade, the trusted roofing professionals at DuraShield Group, a full-service residential and commercial roofing and exterior restoration company focusing on storm damage repair in Appleton, Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin, have been repairing and replacing roofs to the highest standard of quality. The team at DuraShield understands that paying for roof improvements is a major investment and a decision that requires research, referrals and finding the right price.

Unfortunately, for many home and business owners, finding a reputable roofing contractor is not an easy task. In 2011, roofing contractors ranked fourth on the Better Business Bureau's list of the top ten industries for customer complaints and ranked second on their list for customer inquiries. Knowing how to spot the pros in an industry filled with scammers can be daunting, especially when your roof requires immediate repair and you don't have the time to invest in a lengthy research process.

The roofing experts at DuraShield have assembled the following list of ten helpful tips to help you avoid roofing scams and select a professional, reputable and reliable roofing contractor:

    1. Check for insurance: Make sure you hire a roofing company that is fully licensed and insured. Be sure to check that their insurance is current and includes Workers' Compensation coverage.

    2. Get references and check them: Nothing is more powerful than word of mouth. Call the roofing company directly and ask for references. You can even check their company website for customer testimonials. Ask friends and family members for recommendations. And don't forget to search the Internet, which is a great resource for customer feedback. Steer clear of any company that won't willingly provide several references.

    3. Check credentials: Your roofing company should be certified by the National Roofing Contractors Association, the construction industry's most respected trade organization.

    4. Check with BBB: The Better Business Bureau provides invaluable information about a roofing company's reputation with customers, record of service and length of operation.

    5. Verify reputation: Check to see if the roofing company has memberships or affiliations with any local or national organizations. For example, DuraShield employs Haag Certified roofing inspectors and is an Owens CorningTM preferred contractor, which requires the company to meet stringent business guidelines.

    6. Choose a company that uses materials from well-known brands: You want only the best when it comes to your home or business. You should demand the same from your roofing company. Make sure the company you select uses high-quality materials from leading manufacturers and installs them according to specifications.

    7. Support local businesses: There are many advantages to buying local. Your roofing contractor should have experience with local building codes and guarantee that their work meet all local codes. Additionally, a well-established local business is more likely to be around for the long haul and can be called upon should additional repairs be required.

    8. Work with only reputable roofing contractors: After a major hail storm or damaging tornado, many storm-damage roofing companies may knock on your door and ask to provide you with a roofing estimate. Make sure that you review their credentials to ensure that you are dealing with a reputable roofing contractor. While companies like DuraShield have a strong brand and offer high-quality, reputable work, many of these unsolicited roofing companies are called "storm chasers" and will only be around long enough to get paid before moving on to the next storm-damaged area.

    9. Don't pay for the entire project upfront, especially with cash: Reputable roofing contractors will require that you sign a contract for the project. However, they won't require you to pay for everything upfront. Payment terms are typically structured in thirds (one third upfront, one third at the midpoint, and one third at completion). In most instances, DuraShield doesn't require any money upfront. DuraShield will complete your roofing project and work out payment terms with your insurance provider. Why spend your own money when you don't have to?

    10. Get a detailed contract: Incorporating as much information as possible into your contract from the get-go can save a lot of headaches down the road. You will know exactly what to expect and your roofing contractor will know exactly what services are to be provided. Keep in mind that unexpected problems may arise once the contractor begins work, so build some room in the contract for unanticipated or extra costs.

"At DuraShield, we believe that quality craftsmanship and world-class service should go hand-in-hand," said Anthony Walsh, founder and owner of DuraShield Group. "When it comes to repairing your roof, you deserve to work with knowledgeable professionals who go above and beyond what is required to get the job done right. That's what you can expect from DuraShield."

DuraShield's roofing repair experts and contractors are fully licensed and insured. They have extensive knowledge of local building codes and install only the highest-quality products from leading manufacturers. DuraShield is certified by the National Roofing Contractors Association and is affiliated with several national trade organizations. If your roof needs repair or replacement, contact the roofing experts at DuraShield to schedule your free on-site damage inspection today. Contact DuraShield by phone at (855) 387-2744 or visit

Senior living facility pledged donation for each new resident, says CEO Kelley D. Hamilton.

SALEM, Oregon ( April 11, 2013 -- Kelley D. Hamilton, CEO and owner of Bonaventure Senior Living, announces that Bonaventure's assisted living communities have raised $151,250 for charities. The fundraiser was part of a fundraising initiative that began last fall, when Kelley D. Hamilton and his staff announced that for each new move-in during November and December, Bonaventure would donate $1,000 to a charity of that person's choice.

With locations in the western region of the U.S., Bonaventure Senior Living strives to give back to the communities in which it resides. The goal with this initiative, Kelley D. Hamilton explains, was that citizens would be able to participate in giving back to their local communities.

In addition to offering a $1,000 donation for any new residents, Kelley D. Hamilton also offered an additional $500 donation to any individual who referred a new resident. The $500 offer was also extended to any 501(c)(3) charity that referred a person who moved into a Bonaventure Senior Living facility. This provided a great way for local charities to add to their funds while also helping connect friends and family with an assisted living facility that provides the best senior living experience, according to Kelley D. Hamilton.

In order to ensure that current residents were included in the project, Kelley D. Hamilton added a feature that allowed each of Bonaventure Senior Living's communities to choose six local charities. Those charities will each receive $250, Kelley D. Hamilton explains.

The project brought in a total of $151,250 for 236 charities in Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Montana, Idaho and Colorado. Kelley D. Hamilton adds that the home office of Bonaventure Senior Living will kick in an additional $70,000.

"Giving back to the local community while honoring our residents and their values is absolutely the right thing to do," Kelley D. Hamilton states, adding that Bonaventure Senior Living wants to help residents by supporting local charities that matter to them.

The giving campaign culminates in a celebration held in each community, which Kelley D. Hamilton says will celebrate the success of each campaign. Because it was such a success, Kelley D. Hamilton also announced Bonaventure Senior Living will organize this event each year.

Kelley D. Hamilton has a long history of working with assisted care facilities, having joined Bonaventure Senior Living in 2000. In his 13 years as CEO, Kelley D. Hamilton has expanded Bonaventure Senior Living from four communities to now operating and managing 37 communities in six different states.

According to Kelley D. Hamilton, Bonaventure Senior Living has a history of helping others. The facility has long offered seniors a place to come if they need a hot meal, says Kelley D. Hamilton. Recently, an Oregon-based Bonaventure facility offered its facilities to displaced residents of a nearby adult care home. Kelley D. Hamilton believes this commitment to the community helps set Bonaventure apart from others, emphasizing its place in the communities in which each facility is located. Kelley D. Hamilton says Bonaventure will soon be expanding into Colorado Springs, Colorado, furthering its growth.

For more information about what Bonaventure Senior Living has to offer, Kelley D. Hamilton recommends visiting Bonaventure's website at Kelley D. Hamilton states that those interested in residency can stop by for a tour. Tours may be scheduled on the facilities' website, Kelley D. Hamilton says, with a brochure available to also highlight Bonaventure's offerings.

( April 11, 2013 -- On Thursday, May 2nd, people across the country will come together to observe the 62nd annual National Day of Prayer. The Missionaries of Prayer, an interdenominational network of Christians committed to prayer, will once again stream live footage from churches across the country, where groups will gather for a day of prayer. By visiting the Missionaries of Prayer website, those who would like to participate in the National Day of Prayer but who may not be able to visit a church because of disability, employment or other engagements, may do so wherever they are, via a National Day of Prayer webcast.

The theme for this year's National Day of Prayer is 'Pray for America,' brought about by the challenges currently facing our nation's people, such as economic volatility and the threats posed to constitutional rights. The theme for prayer this year comes from Matthew 12:21, which states, "In His name, the nations will put their hope." Millions of people from all walks of life will be brought together in prayer, at thousands of different locations, to ask God for guidance in these difficult times.

Missionaries of Prayer encourages people to take part in the annual event, either by organizing a day of prayer at their church or Christian Ministry, or by visiting the National Day of Prayer website where they can find an event location.

Nicole Haye-Murray, founder of Missionaries of Prayer, encouraged others to take part in the event, in any way they can.

"The National Day of Prayer is a significant event for Christians across the country," Haye-Murray said. "If you can open your church to allow others to join you in prayer, or even if you're an individual who can only participate by tuning into our live webcast, the important thing is that we're coming together to observe this monumental day by praying for this nation."

All of the information needed to register your church or Christian ministry as an event location can be found on the National Day Of Prayer website. On the event day, those unable to attend a church or other event location can tune into the Missionaries of Prayer site, beginning at 12:01 a.m., to watch the National Day of Prayer webcast and to follow along with the prayer guide.

The Cloud Can Benefit Any Operator Today

Scottsdale, AZ ( April 11, 2013 -- Multimedia Research Group, Inc. (MRG), the market leader in the Video and Media ecosystem for more than 20 years, is excited to release Cloud-Based TV Services for Pay-TV Operators.

With the increasing popularity of cloud computing has come the emergence and popularity of cloud-based TV services. The kinds of applications and services that can be offered via the cloud are increasing every day. Vendors claim that pretty much the entire TV delivery value chain can be offered via the cloud. Technically, this is already happening because current OTT offerings like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and iTunes are all really cloud-based and consumers use their own devices, instead of using traditional set-top boxes.

But, overall, the market for cloud services for pay-TV operators is just starting and vendors are racing to capitalize on it. Norm Bogen, VP of Research explains "Cloud service isn't a flashy new trend, it's a steady migration away from legacy hardware and software services. Although not every pay-TV operator is likely to decide to scrap an entire legacy infrastructure or platform for the cloud, any operator can benefit today."

Some of the largest market drivers for cloud-based TV services are multiscreen and TV Everywhere, as well as the migration from QAM to IP video networks for cable operators. Additionally, the cloud can help operators lower their overall costs by decreasing their reliance on set-tops and relying less on hardware upgrades and additional software licenses.

That being said, MRG expects that cloud-based TV service revenues will increase from nearly $120 million in 2013 to more than three quarters of a billion dollars by 2017.  Garnering the lion's share of those revenues will be cloud services for cable operators, followed by satellite and then IPTV.

This report provides an introduction to cloud-based TV services for pay-TV operators worldwide and how these services are transforming delivery of next-generation services. It includes an overview of the cloud-based TV vendors and their services, as well discussions on market drivers, opportunities and risks for deploying cloud services plus a cloud-based TV services market size and forecast.  The deliverable is comprised of a PDF.

( April 11, 2013 -- A new study by the Center of Energy-Efficient Telecommunications, which is a joint effort between AT&T Bell labs and the University of Melbourne, Australia, found that wireless networking infrastructures across the globe account for 10 times the power consumption as data centers worldwide.

All told, such networks are responsible for 90% of the power usage by the cloud infrastructure, and that consumption seems to be growing fast.

The study was all part of a rebuttal to Greenpeace's report that focused directly on power consumption of data centers. "The energy consumption of wireless access dominates data center consumption by a significant margin," the authors of the CEET study wrote. One of the findings from the CEET researchers was the notation that wired networks and data-center applications can actually reduce the overall energy consumption taken up by computers. They do so by allowing less powerful client devices to function.

According to the CEET, within the next three years, the wireless "cloud" infrastructure will likely consume as much as 43 terawatt-hours of electricity across the world, while generating nearly 30 megatonnes of carbon dioxide. That total is 4.9 million automobiles worth of carbon emissions, according to the CEET. The projected power consumption is a nearly 460% increase from the 9.2 terawatt-hours that were consumed by the wireless infrastructure in 2012.

Such growth projected by the CEET has been based upon the scenario wherein such networks reach two billion users worldwide by 2015, and generate traffic of 4.3 exabytes per month.

There are more conservative estimates of 32 terawatt-hours utilized by "low-uptake" scenarios for wireless broadband services, with only 1.6 billion users across the globe. The figures have included users who accessed the cloud through in-home, as well as public, WI-FI and femtocell and carriers' cellular infrastructure alike.
