Connects Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority With the Community

With locations in Westbank and Eastbank, La., JPHSA provides management and direction of service provision to nearly half a million people and their families affected by mental illness, substance abuse and developmental disabilities in the greater New Orleans area.

JPHSA's network administrator Manh Nguyen identified the need for a business telephone system that would meet the organization's goal of improving service to its clients. Objectives included:

- Network JPHSA's two locations, providing direct-extension dialing and redundancy for system failover;

- Enable Caller ID for all users;

- Utilize unified communications for appropriate employees;

- Deliver voice mail with unified messaging capabilities for all employees;

- Provide a robust auto attendant that empowers callers to quickly reach the right department, with an option for emergency calls;

- Provide Unified Call Distribution (UCD) to easily and equally allow staff to answer incoming calls; and

- Reduce overall communications costs.

Installed by Preferred Data Voice Networks, JPHSA's Toshiba business telephone system consists of:

- Two IPedge EC IP business telephone systems;

- 46 trunk licenses for two PRIs coming in via the Adtran Gateway, per site;

- Overhead paging for JPHSA's Westbank location;

- Unified Messaging, enabling users to receive voice messages and faxes in their email inboxes;

- Enterprise Manager for remote system administration of both locations; and

With the IPedge systems, JPHSA has improved both internal and external communications. By networking the two offices, employees can easily connect with each other using direct-extension dialing. By moving to Voice over IP, JPHSA eliminated expensive POTS lines and reduced costs by more than $19,000 annually. TRAQPak Indicates an Increase in March Business Aviation Flight Activity

Cincinnati, Ohio (PRBuzz.com) April 9, 2013 -- ARGUS TRAQPak data is serial-number specific aircraft arrival and departure information on all IFR flights in the US (including Alaska and Hawaii) and Canada. The tables below reflect business aircraft activity data for March 1-31, 2013 vs. February 1-28, 2013 and March 1-31, 2013 vs. March 1-31, 2012 respectively. March 2013 flight activity showing a significant increase over February but down year over year. TRAQPak data shows that March 2013 flight activity levels increased significantly from February, finishing the month up 10.4% overall. The results by operational category were all positive led by fractional aircraft, which posted back to back month over month increases to finish up 15.7%. Part 135 & Part 91 flight activity finished the month up 12.8% & 7.7% respectively. Aircraft category results were also positive for the month with small cabin aircraft leading the way, up 12.7%. Mid-size cabin, turboprops and large cabin aircraft followed with gains of 11.6%, 10.4% and 4.0% in that order. Reviewing the individual market segments, the fractional mid-size cabin segment posted the largest month over month increase, up 17.2%.

Reviewing year over year activity (March 2013 vs. March 2012), TRAQPak data indicates an overall decrease of 2.6%. Results by operational category were mostly negative for the period with the exception of Part 135 activity which posted a year over year increase of 9.3%. The Part 91 & fractional markets posted year over year decreases of 7.6% & 6.8% respectively. Looking at activity by aircraft category; the turboprop segment showed the largest decline, finishing the month down 8.8%. Small, mid-size and large cabin aircraft finished the period up 1.0%, 0.7% and 0.4% overall. Comparing Q1 2013 to Q1 2012 flight activity has declined 1.8% year over year.

Stowe Electric Department chooses MeterSense and CustomerConnect to interpret and act on grid data and give consumers access to their usage profiles

Ottawa, ON (PRBuzz.com) April 9, 2013 -- Stowe Electric Department has chosen MeterSense and CustomerConnect, Harris Utilities' meter data management (MDM) solution and customer engagement solution (CES), to gather and analyze meter data and present consumption information to consumers.

MeterSense is an advanced MDM solution that transforms raw smart meter data into valuable business intelligence and enables utilities to improve business processes and enhance customer service. CustomerConnect is a web-based data presentment tool that enables customers to access and interpret their consumption patterns, which helps them make smarter choices about resource use, reduce their bills and support utility conservation goals.

MeterSense helps Stowe Electric be more efficient
Stowe Electric distributes electricity to some 4,000 residential and commercial consumers in Northern Vermont. The utility began to consider installing smart grid infrastructure in 2010 with the aim of automating its meter-read processes, realizing some operational efficiencies and giving consumers more control over their energy use and utility bill costs. A Smart Grid Investment Grant issued to the utility by the Department of Energy helped Stowe Electric fund its advanced metering project. The utility began deploying smart meters in October 2012 and concluded in January 2013.

Stowe Electric supplemented its advanced metering infrastructure with MeterSense, and the MDM solution went live on the utility's systems at the outset of meter deployment. The utility was eager to reap the benefits MeterSense provided, specifically: validation, estimation and editing routines for billing, and detailed analytics to help its customer-service team address consumers' questions.

"MeterSense gives us two-way communication with our smart meters and enables us to derive greater intelligence from the grid data we collect," said Patrick Householder, Controller with Stowe Electric Department. "We use MeterSense not only to collect and interpret grid data, but also to understand how our grid is performing and to better serve our customers."

Already, MeterSense has yielded significant benefits. By automating meter reads, the solution has enabled Stowe Electric to eliminate two meter-reader positions. Moreover, by putting customer service agents in touch with consumers' meter data almost instantly, MeterSense helps Stowe Electric personnel resolve high-bill complaints in seconds, rather than hours or even days.

CES use is becoming more common in Vermont
In the state of Vermont, utilities that introduce smart metering projects are encouraged to supplement such technology with consumer engagement software. Stowe Electric was therefore eager to find a solution that was easy to use, that integrated seamlessly with its enterprise technology, and that gave end users a direct connection to their consumption and bill data. CustomerConnect was that solution.

"It made sense to go with CustomerConnect because of its assured integration with MeterSense," said Householder. "We also liked the fact that the solution provides detailed billing and usage information while being intuitive for our customers."

American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Adds Six New Visiting Professors

University of Missouri then-Chief Resident Whitney Hovenic, M.D., said the ASDS Visiting Professors in 2012 brought to her school "an excitement about chemical peeling and its use for both medical and cosmetic conditions. As residents, we had had very limited experience with chemical peeling, a technique with which all dermatologists should be familiar."

BAG rules on temporary workers

(PRBuzz.com) April 10, 2013 -- The Federal Labour Court (BAG) appears to have decided in several cases that temporary workers might potentially be entitled to a higher wage for their work.

In the cases before the BAG, several temporary workers sued for supplementary compensation to their wage. The temporary workers concerned were paid by one and the same employers' association. A few of them received a wage for their work during their employment which only amounted to just under half of what the permanent employees received for the same work.

The BAG then decided that the temporary workers are entitled to the same wage as the permanent employees. However, it is necessary for the temporary workers to assert the rights before predetermined deadlines. In its decision, the BAG referred to the German Law on Labour Leasing (Arbeitnehmerüberlassungsgesetz (AÜG)). According to this, workers for whom there is no valid wage agreement ought to be entitled to the same working conditions and equivalent pay to that of permanent employees.

Experts are sceptical as to whether numerous temporary workers are able to assert rights from previous years. In particular, the fact that the rights can prescribe may be problematic here.

With respect to all legal questions concerning the conclusion of the agreement, written warning or dismissal, the employees concerned should seek out a lawyer versed in labour law. He can assert their interests in individual and collective labour law both extrajudicially and in court.
