The Greats and the Grunts Meet to Eat during World War II
    New Book Brings Them Together

(PRBuzz.com) March 29, 2013 -- Tanks, airplanes and submarines are normally the stuff of World War II books. Now there is one about food. Kent Whitaker's new book "Bullets and Bread" features soldiers at war and civilians on the home front. Whitaker, an outdoor food expert, starts by taking us indoors to show how the nation was transformed, from a culture of cities drawing from surrounding farms, to a nation with a vast food industry large enough to feed a military that grew "overnight" from one million to twelve million strong and the many millions more of people at home who had to make drastic rationed adjustments.

"Bullets and Bread," like World War II, covers four years of victory gardens, rations on the home front, field rations in Normandy and the Pacific, cooks and bakers schools in Chicago, foodstuffs on boats, battleships and battlefields, and subdued dining halls in Washington. It was a pulling together of everyone in the United States in a concerted effort to win the war, an effort fueled by food. General George Patton who knew about war and food said, "The Army is a team, it lives and sleeps together and fights as one...the soldier is the army, and his well being was predicated on his receiving better food than the enemy." And they did get the better food, often because those at home did without.

Life at home for the average American was an awareness that they fought the war in factories and on farms and by often doing without, and standing in line for staples such as sugar, butter and coffee. The "glamorous" life of fine dining for princesses, movie stars, the president, prime minister, and civilians was doing without as well. Everyone tightened the beltline. It was a huge team effort. The author captures that remarkable team effort and brings voices from the foxholes and battleships of the past, to the present. Recollections of meals of war by several who served bring a fascinating and often humorous perspective to the book that only those who served could render.

Kent Whitaker is the author of three cookbooks specializing in Tennessee hometown cooking and is a resident of East Ridge, Tennessee.
"Bullets and Bread," 9781933909752 pub date March 26, 2013, History Publishing Company, will be in bookstores nationally and is also available on Bn.com and Amazon. com

Woodbury, MN (PRBuzz.com) March 29, 2013 -- Hair loss is a traumatic disorder that can reduce a person's self-confidence and cause real emotional unrest. The key to properly treating hair loss is understanding the treatment options that work and do not work. To that end Roosters Men's Grooming Center offers some advice on hair loss. For more information, visit http://www.roostersmgc.com or call the shop in Woodbury at 651-348-6676.

In between haircuts, to avoid worry about hair loss, don't avoid shampooing. One of the common hair loss myths is that over-shampooing can cause hair loss. While treating your hair harshly can cause thinning, shampooing infrequently means more hair sheds when shampooing, which can cause anxiety about hair loss. Stick to treating the hair gently but shampooing regularly to avoid this unnecessary worry.

Drinking plenty of water daily is also important. One should make sure they drink plenty of water throughout the course of the day. Water can help get rid of toxins in the body that could be contributing to hair loss. One should drink at least 14 glasses of water that is filtered to remove chlorine and lead. Drinking plenty of water can help prevent hair loss in the future.

Stress has also been shown to have a link to hair loss. If one wants to keep that full healthy head of hair, one should try to stay as stress-free as possible. It has been shown that stress causes constriction and restriction of blood flow to the scalp, which causes hair follicles to die. One way to relieve stress is to visit the local Woodbury barber shop for a nice, relaxing facial.

The barber shop in Woodbury wants their customers to keep their full head of hair and they offer products that are gentle to ones scalp and will help keep one's hair clean and healthy. Visit http://www.woodburybarbershop.com/ or call 651-348-1378 for an appointment.

Targeted ad insertion, shared hub support, time-shifting and lower bandwidth requirements make this next-level solution unique

Ottawa, ON (PRBuzz.com) March 29, 2013 -- International Datacasting (TSX: IDC), a global leader in digital content distribution for the world's premiere radio and television broadcasters, will launch the second generation of its popular STAR Pro Audio solution at the 2013 NAB Show, April 8 - 11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center (Booth SU3711.)

The second generation of the STAR Pro Audio solution opens up new revenue generating opportunities for radio networks by providing localized ad insertion. The new platform also enables time-shifting functionality, allowing broadcasters to play the right content at the desired time. Broadcasters can now seamlessly adjust for time zones and rapidly adapt to conflicting live programming schedules.
In addition to increasing ad revenues and improving flexibility, the STAR Pro Audio solution significantly lowers per-channel costs through shared hub support. Additionally, it uses up to 70% less bandwidth compared to competitive solutions.

"With this next generation of STAR Pro Audio, radio broadcasters can look forward to two very important things--boosting revenue and lowering their operating expenditures," said Del Lippert, Chairman of the Board and Interim CEO, International Datacasting. "The platform increases advertising revenues because it enables highly localized ad insertion. The ability to sell more targeted ads--by location, demographic, time zone, or language--means more revenue opportunities across the entire network. "We're eager to show off our next generation of STAR Pro Audio at the NAB show next month."

STAR Pro Audio includes a copy split capability that allows operators to send select ads to specific regions or specific receivers. Audio files stored in the receiver can be inserted into live or recorded programming. Cost savings are realized through shared hub support which enables multiple radio networks to share one 4-channel receiver instead of having each network deploy its own standalone, single channel receiver. Additionally, STAR Pro Audio requires just 120 kHz space segment for stereo, as opposed to 440 kHz for competitive systems, resulting in further cost savings.

Industry experts believe there will be a resurgence of radio advertising due to the inclusion of FM radio receivers in smart phones. This will add millions of new FM radios in the market.

The second generation of the STAR Pro Audio solution will be featured at the NAB 2013 Radio PIT in Central Hall:
    April 8th, 2:15 p.m. - 2:35 p.m. PT
    April 9th, 1:15 p.m. - 1:35 p.m. PT

Virginia Lee Williams, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, and Walter Capitani, Vice President of Product Management, will discuss the second generation of STAR Pro Audio at the above-listed dates and times.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    APRIL 2013

    Contact: Dick Nicolson
    Phone: 248-207-3921
    Email: dnicolson@donorsigns.com

Bloomfield Hills, MI (PRBuzz.com) March 29, 2013 -- Donor Signs, Inc.'s focus is to seamlessly integrate design and fabrication to create high quality plaques and displays that recognizes people who've provided donations to non-profit institutions. Donor recogniton, which includes donor walls and individual donor plaques, is one of the most effective ways to thank a donor for their gift. It's imperative that the design and quality of the fabrication is exceptional.

Donor Signs, Inc.'s (DSI) goal is to reach out to a broad customer base that includes institutions that are not large enough to hire a design firm but want more than what they can find at the local sign shop. DSI designers created a line of custom designed plaques and donor walls that are sold on-line at www.donorsigns.com.

Richard Nicolson, who has been designing and implementing recognition programs throughout the Midwest since 1993, founded Donor Signs, Inc.. Says Mr. Nicolson, "At Nicolson Associates we've been very lucky to be able to design and build some really nice donor walls for some major clients like Beaumont Hospital or Mott Children's Hospital. But we knew there was a large segment of the market that wasn't being addressed."

DSI's start-up product line includes nine different plaque designs that are grouped in categories named Contemporary, Traditional, and Economical. Each design comes in four to five different sizes to recognize different giving levels. Prices range from $84 to over $1000 each. There's something for everyone.

Donor walls are available with a changeable aluminum insert system in which each name can be removed or moved and new names can be easily added. Or, at a more economical price, there is the easy frame system where all the donor names are printed on a laminated sheet of paper and inserted in a large frame. Either system is available at a fraction of the cost of a traditional custom design donor wall.

But, if custom donor recognition is what you are looking for, Donor Signs, Inc. has you covered, they utilize the full horsepower of Nicolson Associates. DSI has the same designers, craftspeople and artisans they use for their own donor projects.

Another capability brought over from Nicolson Associates is recognition planning consultation. A recognition plan sets policies and organizes the program so that every time there's a new gift everyone, including the donor, knows exactly how the donor will be recognized. Another aspect of planning is documenting all your existing recognition. This can be a daunting task, DSI consultants recently documented donor walls and plaques haphazardly located throughout a school well over 100 years old. They found and photographed each piece and noted its size, condition, materials, etc..

DSI started with four employees in March 2013. "Our goal is to employ at least six people by the end of 2013 and double that number by the end of 2014" said Eric Nicolson, DSI Business Manager. "Even though we ship all over the world we are committed to using Michigan based artists and craftspeople as much as possible. There are some really great resources here and we are fortunate to have such intimate access to them."

Proper maintenance of granite countertops include annually sealing the granite surface with a quality natural stone sealer. Granite is moisture resistant by nature, but sealing the surface will prevent stains or discoloration caused by juices, sauces, cooking grease or oils.

When sealing granite countertops, one must keep in mind that they can vary in porosities. This occurs because granite is a rock formation created under extreme pressure and by the solidifying of several different minerals. This variation in pressure and minerals cause each piece of granite to be uniquely formed and individually porous.

Sealing granite countertops is easy as explained by Surface Encounters. Simply clean the granite with a non-abrasive cleaner, wipe dry and apply sealant. Test granite countertops by applying water to the sealed surface. Once the sealant is cured, the water will form beads if it is resistant to oil and water. Most local hardware stores carry a variety of granite countertop sealants or consumers can call and ask the experts at Surface Encounters for their recommendation.

For the best results when sealing granite countertops, work in small areas at a time and follow the sealant manufacturer's cleaning instructions thoroughly. Some areas may require two coats so be sure to allow for plenty of drying time between coats. Granite countertops experts also suggest having proper ventilation when applying sealant. Also allow the granite countertops to dry completely before using the surface for food preparations or dining.

After an annual sealing, granite countertops are virtually maintenance free and protected from stains. Once sealed, granite countertops can be cleaned by simply washing as needed with a mild anti-bacterial kitchen cleanser.

When properly maintained, the natural beauty grain of granite countertops, like the ones available at Surface Encounters will last a lifetime and provide years of enjoyment. That's why granite countertop owners agree that granite countertops are the best choice for countertop surfaces. Visit http://www.granitecountertopsannarbormi.com/ to learn more.

(PRBuzz.com) April 1, 2013 -- The pleasing aesthetic qualities of granite, especially the many color variations, provided by nature make each piece unique and highly sought after by granite countertops contractors

Commerce Twp - With several quarries nationwide, the US leads the industry in the extraction and processing of granite for the building industry. As the demand for granite countertops and other natural stone surfaces grows, more suppliers from all over the world will be needed. With more countries producing granite, the color variations also increase in the U.S. market. This makes for a wide choice in colors for the countertops' market and the chance to match any décor as seen in the Surface Encounters granite countertops showroom.

When customers visit the showroom, they are in for a real treat as they view a variety of granite slabs and learn many fun facts about the product. In addition, the automated machinery used by Surface Encounters is nothing short of amazing.

Granite is a dimensional stone which is formed over time as minerals solidify together under great forces of pressure from the plate tectonics in the earth's crust. When cut into slabs and polished for granite countertops one can see the layers of formation in the stone.

The unique color patterns found in granite are created by the flow of the minerals through the body of this natural stone. This is called "movement" and granite countertops are often full of "movement". This "movement" of minerals in granite countertops can make the surface appear darker or lighter.

Granite will vary in its color pattern and is almost like a fingerprint, no two are exactly alike. The longer the slab the more distinct and unique the piece becomes, so each granite countertop is a unique piece of nature's art.

Depending on the décor of one's home or office, one may choose a color pattern native to a specific part of the world. Asian décors normally are accented with a red or pink granite countertop. These countertops are created from what is known as Rose granite which is native to Brazil or China.

A popular color chosen by contractors today is a blue granite countertop. Blue granite is native to the Ukraine, South Africa, and Norway. Regardless of the décor, Surface Encounters has 1000's of color choices to choose from either in international or domestic granite.

The most widely used colors of granite used for granite countertops are yellow, beige, brown and black. In black granite, the quartz characteristics found in the natural stone give a textured appearance providing both an elegant and deep finish to a granite countertop. The black granite used in countertops is native to Sweden, Australia, South Africa and India.

Granite countertops with all of its color vanities offer one a chance at the most durable, life time-lasting beauty for any home. Unlike laminates which fade or discolor, granite countertops can be polished and returned to a rich, deep and full luster that only polished granite can provide. (PRBuzz.com) April 1, 2013 -- Granite countertops can be created with a large slab or by building a unique look using granite tiles

West Bloomfield MI - Though the continuous slab is the most desired look for new granite countertops, many people prefer the unique style of using granite tiles. Both styles of granite countertops are suitable for custom home kitchens, and are accepted as having equally as good longevity and attributes to beautify one's home. While made of the same type of material each has their own unique defining characteristics.

Most popular is a natural granite slab. A granite slab may vary in thickness and color depending on where the granite countertops were processed when purchased by the installer. These slabs are mined as a single stone from a granite quarry and milled to a specific thickness and finished to the customer's specifications. While natural granite slabs have a breathtakingly beautiful characteristic about them the color and grain pattern of the slab are usually unique.

Surface Encounters kitchen countertop installers have learned that some homeowners prefer a tiled design for their new granite countertops. Granite tiles are created from smaller, but equally durable and beautiful pieces of granite. These granite tiles stick firmly to a countertop under-laminate when applied using a high strength construction adhesive. The tiles should then be sealed with two coats of clear granite sealant which will bring out the beauty of the natural granite in each tile.

When properly installed, granite countertops made of granite tiles offer the same elegant look of a granite slab countertop with all the desirable properties of a granite slab. The added bonus of choosing to use granite tiles as opposed to granite countertop slabs is that they may be purchased individually and intermixed when needed to add or repair additional counter space.

Both granite slab countertops and granite tile countertops are respected in the industry as home or business worthy. Both are available in an equal amount of unique and deep, rich colors and can be purchased at Surface Encounters. Both are considered to be an asset and both add value to one's home or business. (PRBuzz.com) April 1, 2013 -- Planning the entire kitchen remodeling project from measuring for new granite countertops to the all-important finishing touches

Canton MI - Area homeowners rely on the advice and expertise of Surface Encounters interior design specialists to plan their kitchen remodeling project. From the preliminary measuring to the all-important finishing touches of the new granite countertops, Surface Encounters takes the stress and guess out of the process to offer a more positive home improvement experience.

Granite countertops can have several finishes depending on style and preference. Home remodelers can choose between a polished, honed, flamed or brushed finish. The choice of style is according to décor'. When customers tour the Surface Encounters showroom granite countertops experts explain the process of creating and finishing granite countertops.

A polished finish is the most popular for the beauty and depth of the grain when brought to a high gloss. Polished finishes also create a pristine and elegant touch in the kitchen. Polished finished granite countertops are a suitable choice for any kitchen. They are easier to maintain than most other finishes and have a high luster look allowing the color in one's granite to reveal its deep natural grain.

The popularity of honed finishes is on the rise in newly installed granite countertops. Honed finishes are smooth and have a lower luster than the polished finishes. Although this style of granite countertops is less shimmering in appearance, it gives a home a slightly more relaxed and contemporary look, while still maintaining the elegant touch associated with granite countertops. When properly cleaned, maintained and cared for one's honed granite countertops will last as long as any other finish.

Flamed finishes are another option for new granite countertops. The flamed finish is created by exposing the granite to an extremely intense heat followed immediately by intense cooling. The exposure to the extreme temperature causes the granite to melt, and remold its minerals to create a textured surface. Although typically used in industrial applications flamed finish granite countertops can offer a unique look in the home. The flamed finish is an excellent choice for garage work spaces, studios and craft areas where a textured and slip resistant surface is desired.

Granite countertops are also available in brushed finishes, sometimes referred to as antiqued finishes, and are created when granite processors gently brush the granite's surface developing a "worn-in" look throughout the stone. A brushed finish offers homeowners the most dramatic kitchen countertop surface.

Whether the finish is polished, honed, flamed or brushed, granite countertops provide many years of enjoyment to the homeowner. A lot of planning goes into remodeling the kitchen, so the interior design specialists at Surface Encounters are happy to assist the customer with all the details, from measuring to finishing and installing new granite countertops. (PRBuzz.com) April 1, 2013 -- While laminated countertops often are half the price of granite countertops, the kitchen and bathroom design specialists at Surface Encounters say granite is still a better value in the long run

Walled Lake MI - New kitchen countertops are a major investment in the home so life expectancy and cost are both issues to consider when deciding what type of material is the best option. Granite countertops are generally more expensive than laminate; however, when compared, they are unmatched for quality, performance and longevity.

A professionally installed laminate countertop can cost between $25 and $50 per square foot. The price depends on the quality and design of the laminate. Granite countertops which are professionally installed can range from $50 to $100 dollars per square foot. Though twice the price, granite countertops will last a lifetime where the laminate countertops will need to be replaced in 5 to 10 years.

Surface Encounters is currently installing granite countertops for only $25.00 per square foot! That is the price of the cheapest laminate tops! Their half-off granite countertops special will be available for a limited time only, so area residents are placing their orders now.

For the do-it-yourselfer laminate sheets are readily available and easy to install for $5 to $10 dollars a square foot, however these laminates often have a short life span and will need to be replaced long before granite countertops. Granite countertops are considered a one-time investment when purchased from the professional installers at Surface Encounters.

Granite, a natural stone, is a very hard and durable material that boasts the reputation of lasting forever. It is stain resistant, heat tolerant and holds its natural luster indefinitely. "Granite often out lives the homeowner compared to laminates which are usually replaced every ten years," notes one installer. Armed with this knowledge it becomes easy to see why granite countertops are the better value in the long run.

The average cost of new granite countertops installation can range from $3500 to $5000 dollars and last a lifetime compared to laminate countertops which cost $1800 to $2500 but only lasts for 10 years. To the homeowner, this means one will spend a third more on laminate countertops in their thirty years of homeownership.

Along with the added expense of replacing laminate countertops numerous times, there is also the inconvenience of a kitchen or bathroom that is inoperable during the remodeling process. Often changing or updating countertops for an average kitchen can become a two or three week process depending on the contractor.

Surface Encounters laser measuring technique allows them to leave the kitchen intact and functional while the new granite countertops are being created. Their wise investment in automated machinery ensures high-quality, perfectly finished granite countertops.

After thoughtful consideration, one can see that granite is superior compared to laminate as a material for countertops. The overall cost savings in the lifetime of the home using granite instead of laminate is greater, not to mention the value that beautiful granite countertops adds to the home. It is clearly the best choice. Visit http://www.granitecountertopswalledlake.com/ to learn more.

(PRBuzz.com) April 1, 2013 -- Surface Encounters experts explain the journey of natural stone surfaces from deep in the earth to the home

South Lyon MI -- Granite countertops are trending as one of the most desirable surfaces one can have installed in the home. Whether building a new home or remodeling an existing home, most agree granite countertops offer a look of prestige and elegance. While most appreciate the appearance of granite countertops, few people know the process of bringing granite into the home or business.

Consumers who visit the Surface Encounters granite countertops showroom enjoy learning from an expert who shares information about the granite excavating and manufacturing process.

The first step to creating custom stone countertops begins with locating a supply of granite. Geologists prospect for granite by conducting core samples in the earth to locate rock formations where granite exists. Granite mines exist around the world; with granite being plentiful in the US. The majority of these mines are in the eastern part of the United States.

Once granite is found the operation to extract it from the ground begins. Large excavating machines are brought to the site and a quarry is built to hold the granite blocks while miners attempt to extract the hard granite from the earth. The granite is then removed from the earth with large saws and massive drilling rigs which cut the granite into large blocks. The blocks of granite are cut and removed in a uniform shape which is important in the cutting and transporting process of these large natural stones.

Once excavated and taken to the quarry the granite is sorted by color and transported to a processing plant. At the processing plant the granite blocks which will become granite countertops are again sorted for imperfections, such as foreign material or stress cracks. Once inspected the granite is prepared for processing.

Granite is one of the hardest rocks extracted for construction purposes and the only type of cutting edge that will cut the hard stone is a diamond blade or a granite blade designed for cutting such a large block. Large saws designed for this processing cut the granite into long pieces of 2 to 3 inches in thickness each.

At this point the granite is ready for order to be finished into custom kitchen countertops by Surface Encounters. Customers are given the color options available and when they have selected a color an order will be placed to the processing plant for the amount of material needed.

When the granite arrives to the contractor there is still additional work to be done. The contractor must measure the counter space and cut the granite to fit the homeowner's specifications. When the contractor has finished cutting and polishing the granite countertop it may then be installed in one's home.

Granite countertops, once installed in one's home, will add value to the structure and provide years and years of pleasure, but the journey the stone takes from the earth to one's home is an arduous one. Visit http://www.granitecountertopssouthlyon.com/ to learn more.

(PRBuzz.com) April 1, 2013 -- Artists prefer the durable, aesthetic and pleasing look of granite for their studio and the easy maintenance of a stain resistant surface

Brighton MI - Local artists choose granite countertops as the preferred work surface in their studio. Granite countertops are durable, elegant, easy to clean, stain resistant and will last generations without losing their appeal. Readily accepted in the industry as the most durable of countertop surfaces, granite countertops by Surface Encounters offer great aesthetics and reliability.

Granite is known as one of the hardest natural stones in the world. Granite kitchen countertops are not easily scratched or chipped and may be repaired and polished in the rare event that damage does occur.

Granite is the most preferred countertop material for its high polishing potential and deep grain. The depth of the grain was created when several mineral types fused together eons ago under great pressure. As the years ticked by, these individual minerals solidified into a colorful, harden stone which, when polished, displays both the multi-colored minerals and the deep grains. This makes for a wide variety of the color selections in custom kitchen countertop material.

Artists do not need to be concerned with extensive clean-up after projects are completed. Granite tables, shelves and countertops can be easily wiped clean with a mild cleanser to remove any residue left behind by the artist's work. For most projects a wet cloth will bring the luster back to the countertop and it will look as pristine as it did the day that it was installed. Surface Encounters invites consumers to visit their showroom for a tour to learn more.

Granite countertops are stain resistant and not easily damaged from ink colorants, chemicals or extended exposure to water. Granite countertops have a non-penetrable grain that prevents dyes or colorants from bleeding into the surface and being trapped in the pores of the rock. Natural stone countertops are an ideal work surface especially when using oil based or water based colors.

Pre-finished, commercially installed granite countertops like the ones featured at Surface Encounters offer a lifetime of use. Unlike other surfaces such as laminates, granite countertops will not scratch, tear or wear after long periods of use and will remain as fresh- looking as the day they were installed. Tile countertops can crack or may need to be re-grouted, but granite countertops are maintenance free and will last a lifetime.

Although granite countertops are often considered high-end in terms of price, one will quickly see a return on their investment with durability, ease of maintenance, and longevity. Surface Encounters invites consumers to visit their awesome showroom to learn more about the advanced process of fabricating quality granite countertops, quartz, marble and other natural stone surfaces. For convenience, they are open 7 days a week. Visit http://www.granitecountertopsbrightonmi.com/ to learn more.

Building contractors recommend having granite countertops in kitchens and bathrooms. Surface Encounters' Granite countertops offer longevity at an affordable price of $25 per square foot as announced in their limited time special.

(PRBuzz.com) April 1, 2013 -- Though do-it-yourself home improvement projects are a rewarding accomplishment, home remodelers prefer to hire a professional for new granite countertops installation

Milford MI - DIY enthusiasts have learned that installing new granite countertops can be labor intensive, so they will hire a specialist for this portion of their kitchen remodeling project. Even the more adventurous and skilled homeowner understands that installing new kitchen cabinets and granite countertops will be the most rewarding home remodeling job they will undertake. With this in mind, many are willing to consult a professional for assistance.

Granite countertops are beautiful and durable and will last a lifetime. While installing granite countertops may be more labor intensive than traditional laminate countertops, the value added to the home is well worth the added labor.

Before installation, accurate measurements must be taken of the countertop area. Granite countertops are very heavy, so to avoid injury or damage to the surface, one should not attempt to do this alone.

Granite countertops installation requires the right tools to ensure accuracy and perfection. Common tools needed for installation are a level, caulk gun, screws and circular saw equipped with a diamond-tipped blade.

Most kitchens are not level, so installers will need to shim their cabinets to allow the granite countertops to sit level. When ready to set the granite countertops in place, silver dollar-sized drops of silicon need to be applied to the back of the granite countertop and the plywood to hold the countertop in place.

Once installed seams will need to be sealed. It is suggested by Surface Encounters kitchen countertops specialists that the DIY add colorant to the silicon sealant for a more professional finish.

DIY home improvement saves money and in today's economy saving money on the budget is even more important. Installing one's own granite countertops can be challenging, so area homeowners rely on Surface Encounters to get the job done more efficiently.

Considering the time and work involved with installing new granite countertops, even the do-it-yourself homeowners are choosing to hire it done by Surface Encounters. Surface Encounters is extending their limited time half-off granite countertops special to install granite countertops for only $25.00 per square foot. (PRBuzz.com) April 1, 2013 -- Surface Encounters use of advanced technology saves time and money in new granite countertops production, a savings the company is proud to pass onto the customer

Plymouth MI -- As with any specialty, the longer one works in a particular industry, the more skills and experience they gain. Some of these skills will become the trade's secrets. Surface Encounters granite countertops installers are among those professionals who have developed their own unique tricks of the trade.

When interviewing granite countertops installers consumers discover that each installer has his or her own secrets of the trade that make the most difficult job appear easy. Everything from handling the granite slabs to cutting and polishing the edges, and finally setting the granite countertops in place appear effortless by a contractor with the knowledge of a veteran installer.

While each installer may have their own special technique for cutting a granite countertop, most will agree on the type of saw to be used. Granite is a natural stone and considered to be one of the hardest countertop surfaces to cut, which is why a diamond saw blade is the tool of choice in the industry.

Once new granite countertops are cut, the professionals polish the show surface to give it a professional finish. Some granite countertops installers will secure the granite with a C clamp using a wood block between the clamp and the countertop to prevent scratching of the exposed surface.

Once the countertop is properly secured, the old-school stone fabricators begin polishing the edges by using fifty grit sand paper. The process is repeated using finer and finer grain sandpaper until the desired luster is achieved. The show edges are then polished after sanding them to acquire a perfect finish. Many installers use a rubbing compound and an electric grinder to speed up the polish process. According to Surface Encounters, not only are these methods time consuming, they also leave room for imperfections.

Surface Encounters has their own unique tricks of the trade that distinguish them from over 95% of granite countertops fabricators. Their use of advanced technology reduces the time consuming work described above by using automated machinery to measure, cut and finish the new granite countertops with precision and accuracy. Their investment in high-tech, computer controlled equipment saves time and money in granite countertops production, a savings they proudly pass onto the customer.

A good policy used by professionals to prevent injury to themselves and avoid damage to the home, is never handle the granite countertops alone. Most granite installation companies send at least two installers to manhandle the heavy granite into place.

Professional kitchen countertop installers at Surface Encounters have learned over years of repetitive installations, the best ways to ensure quality while producing granite countertops more quickly than their competitors. Visit http://www.granitecountertopsplymouthmi.com/ to learn more.
