    SAN DIEGO, CA (PRBuzz.com) August 6, 2013 -- EvoNexus, San Diego's only fully pro-bono startup incubator, is now housing 30 companies in its downtown and UTC offices - its largest operating roster since opening in October 2009.

    EvoNexus is the business incubator of CommNexus, a leading non-profit trade organization that works to bolster Southern California high-tech industries.

    "We have some very diverse and exciting entrants this year," said Rory Moore, CEO of CommNexus. "With 30 companies in our program, EvoNexus is building a great ecosystem of startups that further the region in technology and innovation."

    The incubator has added 23 companies this year.

    New companies range from SlimSurveys, a web-based micro survey application, to XLiTE, which is providing solutions for improving photolithography techniques in chip manufacturing. 

    While EvoNexus companies have occupied space in the UTC location since 2009, the majority of companies are now based in the downtown office at 101 West Broadway - in the heart of where the San Diego business community has noted a sizable growth in startup activity.

    "The growth of applications to the incubator increased steadily from 2012 to 2013, more than doubling in our last application round of 2012," said Director of Programs, Michele Yoshioka. "There's pretty great demand to be a part of EvoNexus and it shows in the quality and volume of applications we receive."

    The downtown location has become a hub for educational, informational, and community-oriented events hosted both by EvoNexus and supporting organizations in the region. Additionally, most startups at EvoNexus are web- or software-based products, drawing interest for local technologists in web development and digital media.

    EvoNexus participants work with mentors and advisors to improve and achieve a set of milestones within a time frame of anywhere from 6 to 18 months, depending on the needs of the company and the company's milestones.

    According to the anticipated graduation schedule, EvoNexus is expecting to see four more companies graduate by the end of the year, totaling 10 graduations for 2013.

    The next and final round of EvoNexus applications for 2013 closes on August 7. Yoshioka expects to admit the final group of 2013 entrants by the end of September.

    "EvoNexus could grow to as many as 35 companies by the end of the year, depending on the next round of applications," said Yoshioka.

    (PRBuzz.com) August 6, 2013 -- Scentsy announced in July that it will be continuing its international expansion to Mexico and Australia following its successes in Canada, the UK, Germany, and Ireland. Scentsy's brands will launch in the two countries on September 1, 2013.

    Scentsy is a direct sales company based out of Meridian, Idaho, with over 200,000 sales consultants worldwide. It was founded in 2004 by Orville and Heidi Thompson who saw the product at a tradeshow and purchased the company. The initial product line included plug-in warmers that used a low-wattage Scentsy lightbulb to heat scented wax. The warmer concept provided a needed alternative to traditional candles.

    Scentsy's European expansion began in 2011 and has provided the company opportunities to expand their brand presence to an international consumer base.

    In 2012, Scentsy further expanded the business, though instead of expanding by locations, they added additional brand opportunities and renaming the umbrella company the Scentsy Family. The two new brands included both a fondue line, Velata, as well as a purse and accessory brand, Grace Adele.

    Both Scentsy Fragrance and Grace Adele will be launching in Mexico and Australia.

    Brooke Linville is an independent Scentsy consultant based out of Boise, Idaho, and owns Home Candle Business. She has an international sales team. "The international expansion is very exciting for the Scentsy Family," Linville said. "We are already in Canada, and Mexico is a very logical country for expansion and should bring numerous opportunities for existing consultants and those who are just starting to explore this business opportunity."
