    When a school trip to Vieques, Puerto Rico results in Marco's nemesis assaulting a young woman, the boy's father pays off the local police, setting off a disastrous chain of events. A few locals, hell-bent on exacting revenge, murder Marco's classmates. Marco and company take cover in the forest, where they're stalked and hunted for days.

    Grant will support Think Beyond the Label's efforts to build more inclusive workforce for people with disabilities

    CHICAGO (PRBuzz.com) August 5, 2013 -- Health & Disability Advocates, a national policy and advocacy organization, is proud to announce that it has received a $10,000 Quality of Life grant from The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to advance the work of HDA's Think Beyond the Label brand. The award was one of 74 grants totaling more than $500,000 awarded by the Reeve Foundation to nonprofit organizations nationwide that provide more opportunities, access and daily quality of life for individuals living with paralysis, their families and caregivers. Created by the late Dana Reeve, the program has awarded 2,205 grants totaling nearly $17 million since 1999.

    Think Beyond the Label creates new ways for qualified job seekers with disabilities to connect with employers actively recruiting them. Since 2010, Think Beyond the Label has operated as a public-private partnership working to improve employment prospects for this qualified talent pool. The Quality of Life Grant will advance some of the brand's key initiatives, including its Online Career Fairs and its active engagement with the job seeker community, specifically targeting people with paralysis.

    "Health & Disability Advocates is thrilled to receive its first Quality of Life Grant from the Reeve Foundation," says Barbara Otto, Chief Executive Officer of Health & Disability Advocates, which operates Think Beyond the Label. "Employers are increasingly seeking broader, more modernized approaches for attracting and appealing to qualified job seekers with disabilities. Support from the Reeve Foundation will help Think Beyond the Label continue to develop employment opportunities and build economic security for individuals with disabilities."

    The program's initiatives give top U.S. employers access to Think Beyond the Label's community of 4,500 members with disabilities. One-quarter have at least five years of relevant job experience; one in three have a professional certification or college level degree or beyond.

    "People with disabilities add tremendous value to the workplace - particularly in today's global, knowledge-based economy," adds Otto. "They develop creative solutions to problems in their everyday lives. They routinely think outside the box, because they live outside the box."

    Case in point: Joe Entwisle. The Think Beyond the Label team member and HDA policy analyst sustained a wrestling injury at age 16, leaving him paralyzed from the shoulders down. But he did not let that get in the way of his education or career.

    "My success is a testament to the fact that people with disabilities can compete equitably and contribute significantly to the workplace - just like their peers without disabilities," Entwisle says. "Still, the unemployment rate among working-age Americans with disabilities hovers at fifteen percent vs. nine percent for those without disabilities. Think Beyond the Label offers both job seekers and employers the necessary tools to close that gap."

    A former federal prosecutor, Braunstein has years of experience in all phases of the investigative process, on both the government and the defense side. Additionally, after graduating with honors from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, Braunstein went on to serve as a White House and Senate advisor, giving him invaluable experience in and knowledge of the legal policy arena. Currently, Braunstein serves as a counsel in the Investigations & Criminal Litigation practice group at the law firm WilmerHale, LLP.

    Braunstein will be joining a group of esteemed lawyers and legal scholars on the Legal Advisory Board, including Ronald Daitz, Stephen R. Greenwald, Alan Gura, L.     ASTANA, (PRBuzz.com) August 6, 2013 -- The ATOM Project calls on all people of the world to observe a minute of silence on Aug. 29, the UN International Day Against Nuclear Tests, in memory of all victims of nuclear weapons testing.

    The moment of silence is proposed for 11.05 a.m. local time across the world. When clock hands show 11:05, they represent the Roman letter V, which stands for victory. It is hoped that it will also signify a victory of common sense over fear and a victory for nuclear disarmament efforts around the world.

    On Aug. 29, 2012, Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev addressed a major international parliamentary conference in Astana and launched The ATOM Project as a vehicle to generate global popular support for the permanent end to nuclear weapons testing and, ultimately, the abolition of nuclear weapons. Already, more than 70,000 people from more than 100 countries have signed The ATOM Project's online petition at www.TheATOMProject.org.

    From 1949 to 1991, the USSR conducted more than 450 nuclear weapons tests at the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site in eastern Kazakhstan, bringing illness and death to more than 1.5 million people in the region and radioactive pollution to a huge swath of land.

    In the second part of the 20th century, nuclear tests were conducted by the United States, China, France and Britain as they developed their nuclear arsenals, as well as India and Pakistan.

    Earlier in 2013, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, defying United Nations Security Council resolutions, conducted another of its own nuclear weapons tests, drawing wide international rebuke.

    In a special online message dedicated to the fourth annual observance of August 29, 2013, the International Day Against Nuclear Tests, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urged the international community to "maintain our momentum to end nuclear weapons testing and promote the achievement of a world free of nuclear weapons.

    "The strong and unified response to the nuclear test announced in February by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea demonstrated the international community's commitment to uphold the global norm against nuclear tests," the UN Secretary General said.

    "The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty is a cornerstone of our work. I once again urge all states to sign and ratify the CTBT - especially the eight remaining states whose ratifications are necessary for the treaty to enter into force. At the same time, all states should maintain or implement moratoria on nuclear explosions," Ban Ki-moon stressed.

    "Civil society, academia and the mass media have a crucial advocacy role to play towards accomplishing these goals. Let us work together to end nuclear weapons testing around the world and build a nuclear weapons-free world for our children," the top UN official said.

    The ATOM Project is an international petition campaign designed to unify global public opinion against nuclear weapons testing. The project tells the tragic and hopeful stories of survivors of nuclear testing from the region of Semey. The survivors and their descendants continue to suffer from illness, disease and severe deformities caused by exposure to nuclear radiation during and after the testing, which took place 100 miles outside of the city.

    "We have an opportunity to once more remind the world about the tragic consequences of nuclear testing and to push the global community towards more decisive actions to achieve a final and definitive ban of such testing," President Nazarbayev told the conference in Astana in August 2012 as he announced The ATOM Project. "Under the project any human being on Earth who stands against nuclear weapons can sign an online petition urging governments of the world to abandon nuclear tests forever and ensure early entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. I urge the participants of the conference and all people of goodwill to support The ATOM Project and make the creation of a non-nuclear weapons world our main goal."

    Clarksville, TN (PRBuzz.com) August 6, 2013 -- In 1999, Scott Deaton was finishing his Ph.D. at Georgia Tech where the goal of his research was focused on improving the process of assessing damage after an earthquake. Scott said, "It was a human driven, paper-based process where people were manually documenting the damage, but digitally recording position with handheld GPS and taking photographs with digital cameras." Compiling data from multiple teams required months of work following an earthquake and usually had varying levels of data reliability and quality because lack of standardization of terminology and formats. The research project developed a PDA-based data collection and GIS based visualization system that standardized and organized damage terminology, and integrated the GPS location and photographs all from the field. The new data collection method completely eliminated the manual compilation and post processing of the data.

    Near the end of Scott's research, the NSF sponsored he and his advisor, David Frost, to modify the system and deploy a team to assess the damage to buildings surrounding the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 terrorist attack. Scott said, "As we presented our findings to our geotechnical and geoenvironmental colleagues, we realized the need for our type of business, and thus Dataforensics was founded".

    Dataforensics is a leader in developing and deploying geotechnical and geoenvironmental software applications which enable geologists, geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineers to accomplish field and office work in less time, while improving the accuracy and reliability of the data.

    Dataforensics created a proprietary software program that ran on PDAs and Windows Tablets to allow users to capture all data for geotechnical and environmental site investigations and environmental sampling projects. The software is extremely flexible and customizable by the end-user while facilitating the standardization that helps improve the data collection process.

    Scott added, "In the past, there was not a single device that allowed you to record field data, take pictures and locate it (via GPS) while having enough battery life to get through a full days work. The early units on the market did not satisfy the criteria of being rugged or economical, or they had operating systems and screen sizes that limited the capabilities of the software."

    After working nearly a decade on the PDA-based software and six versions it was very robust but it was limited by the hardware and technology. Dataforensics realized that the software needed the perfect all-in-one mobile device to package the solution for their customers.

    At the same time, Panasonic Systems Communication Company launched the Toughpad FZ-A1. The FZ-A1 is a fully rugged tablet device running on an Android platform. Scott said, "We received a mailer from ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) highlighting a preferred partnership and pricing with DataSource Mobility, specifically for Panasonic products.     DataSource Mobility provided Dataforensics with a Toughpad FZ-A1 demo, as part of their "Touch & Try" program, so that Dataforensics could execute a pilot program and test their software solution on the device. "We've been waiting for this device for 13 years. We are now able to offer our customers a complete solution to capture data from the field in real-time. The Toughpad has allowed us to do more than we could ever do before. It has drastically reduced the complexity of the application because we now have more flexibility in design. With Wi-Fi and/or 3G/4G connectivity, everything syncs to the cloud. In the past, customers had to install three or four software packages to get the data off the PDA and into software on their PC's. The new hardware and software capabilities reduces IT resources necessary to deploy the system. Customers can easily pull down the data and drop it into their PC-based applications," added Scott.

    The Dataforensics software, has exponentially improved operations for customers. A typical drilling project of a 30-40' hole requires approximately 30 minutes of data entry and QC review time, totaling one (1) hour of processing time. The blended hourly billing rate for this type of work is $65 (for a clerical person and an engineer or geologist). One client has drilled approximately 1,300 holes on a single project, amounting to approximately $80,000 personnel costs. Dataforensics' total solution virtually alleviates much of these expenses resulting in at least $45,000 in cost savings.
