National CB Leader Reveals the Startling Root Cause for Disproportionate African American Statistics

(PRBuzz.com) July 31, 2013 -- The problems in the urban-based community are well documented. Some call for jobs and education as an answer. Others see the broken family as the key ill including out of wed-lock children where a staggering 72% of children are now raised by a single parent. The entertainment industry is identified as a major contributor to the violent and promiscuous sub-culture. And the illicit drug business is a parasite without end. But the nation's leading Christ-based Counselor Dr. Steven DavidSon has a completely different perspective.

" We know all about socialization and the impact of long-term disenfranchisement resulting from slavery, Jim Crow and discrimination. However, the logic that these events are the causes for the blight in urban communities today is counter intuitive. How could the community have higher rates of homicides, fewer high school graduates, more out of wed-lock children now than before or shortly after the Civil Rights Act of 1964? These would be understandable if rates were consistent to the period where discrimination was unabated. However, these trends are in the wrong direction."

According to DavidSon something very distinguishable happened, and there was consistent progress across the African American community. "There was the post World-War II migration from the South to Northern cities where jobs were available. As with my family, whole generations moved including grand-parents, uncles, aunts and cousins. I am a first generation Californian born in the 1950s. We lived in projects along with countless others who also moved from Southern states. My young parents purchased their first home in 1955. We were not an exception. All of our relatives who arrived about the same time did likewise. So it's understandable that people reason that jobs would help today."

According to DavidSon the majority of homes were led by intact families. But there was another major factor in the community.

"Clearly intact families are critical. But there was another factor critical to ensuring that families remained intact. "I'll never forget one day in elementary school I didn't have a coat for school. So my grandmother made me wear my older brother's coat (i.e., a hand-me-down). I was so embarrassed. When I arrived at school one of the kids said, 'Stevie has on a preacher coat.' And the other kids chimed-in 'Stevie has a preacher coat. ' My whole attitude changed toward the coat. However, the point is the children all knew the term 'preacher coat' because they attended church. All my friends and relatives attended church. Among other virtues, attending church is an indicator of thankfulness for provisions beyond our control. It's amazing to hear someone speaking about the thumb nail chronology of African-Americans in the nation: Slavery, Jim Crow, Civil Rights movement.

What! No Civil War, no Civil Rights Movement. I'll never mention the Civil Rights movement without mentioning the Civil War. Events leading to the freedom of the slaves is one of the most incredible miracles in history rivaled only by the Jews Red Sea liberation from Egypt (Exodus). Six-hundred thousand (600,000) people lost their lives during the Civil War. No matter what anyone ascribes as the real purpose for the war, African-American freedom from slavery was central to the narrative."

According to DavidSon the response of forgetting the incredible miracles of God has cost African Americans dearly. I recall the talk about the 'white man's' religion. I witnessed the rise of the Black Panther movement growing up in Northern California. I saw the influence of the Black Muslims. Let's keep the record straight. Whether it is freedom from slavery or the accomplishments of the Civil Rights movement, the Christian influence was paramount. Today, some of the most influential African Americans in this nation are spiritually bankrupt. The poorest are deluged with negative imagery. While there are exceptions, there's not nearly the sense of thankfulness African Americans should have for the Lord's deliverance and we bear the results. There's nearly 700 years between the Jews Exodus miracle, and their utter destruction at the hands of the Assyrians and Babylonians. God allowed his enemies to devastate His people because they forgot the God who delivered and blessed them. Name it, the African American community suffers with it! We have all the diseases of the Exodus Egyptians. Our only hope is to turn to the same God who delivered us from physical slavery. National CB Leader Discloses The Civil and Righteousness Challenge of Our Generation and Beyond

"First, we reject the notion completely that the purpose for astonishing and disproportionate murder statistics among other issues in the African-American community are because of slavery, Jim Crow and stifling discrimination. The fact that there will be poor people was established by Jesus 2000 years ago (Matthew 26:11; Mark 14:7; John 12:8). But simply because a person is poor should not weigh on their dignity and sense of worth. Lawlessness and promiscuity does not have to reign in a poor community as we presently witness in many of our urban centers and elsewhere." According to DavidSon there are those who hold to the old images of the past and they are not alone. Whether they are black or white, he shares there are those who are comfortable using race and discrimination no matter what signs they see of improvement.

"We are not attempting to declare that discrimination in all of its forms is not a reality. That would not be accurate. However, discrimination is not the pervasive monster of fifty years ago. There's no way the conditions we witness in urban centers can be legitimately related to the period prior to fifty years ago.  No doubt the circumstances are overwhelming, but let's really identify factors we can compare to fifty years ago. This is not a revelation. The music is devastating. Music can be used for life or death. There's been some efforts, but the more done in this area the more effective we become. Let's face it.  If we sit down with any corporation making billions on gangster rap along with radio stations, promoters, and all their consortiums who are we fooling? Like any interdiction we must reduce the demand. If there are those who desire to hold up picket signs that's fine. But it is more powerful to 'not listen, don't buy, tell others' and that's what we are encouraging, particularly in surrounding areas not as impacted, and by Christians. Our point is that everyone is influenced."

When asked how long will this go on and how will he measure effectiveness he understands the challenge.

"Our first milestone is to initiate the effort. We developed a brief charter and video to make sure everyone can understand what this initiative is. So, our first milestone is to initiate the conversation. Sometimes confronting demons you refused to face is a major accomplishment. We are doing it. Next, this is not an overnight movement. We are ready to maintain the conversation and allow people to become informed over years if necessary. Then the obvious is to see the trends decline. We have the baseline."

When asked about detractors and those who take issue with minimizing what has been widely held as a major contributor to present conditions in urban centers, DavidSon is prepared for what he calls haters and others.  "I'm a Christ-based Counselor by nature. I assess how well people face their reality. I also determine whether what they see is reality or some biased self-protective defense mechanism. And I understand we all need to give ourselves a break. However, it is a disaster to suffer with extreme forms of denial. It's much easier to project-fault on others, and that's the old psychobabble paradigm."

DavidSon shares they'll begin a web based grass-roots campaign including forty days of daily tweets email distributions, and related activities."It would be difficult picketing forty days, but we can maintain a web-based campaign indefinitely with wide exposure."

What we are asking people to do, particularly Christians is to stop enabling artists, producers, radio stations, and radio personalities. Specifically, those who through music peddle gang-violence, defame and degrade women, flaunt the occult, and promote sexual promiscuity to our children, grandchildren, and others." New Study Prompts NYC Dermatology Practice to Talk to Patients About the Seriousness of Mole Removal

According to a 2012 study funded by PetSmart Charities in conjunction with the American Humane Association's Animal Welfare Research Institute, 3-4 million healthy, adoptable pets are euthanized each year at our nation's shelters. That translates to a healthy, adoptable animal losing its life approximately every nine seconds.

Closer to home, numbers released by Dallas Animal Services on October 25, 2011, indicate that 28,392 dogs and cats ended up in the City's shelter in 2011. 75% of these animals - specifically 20,684 - were euthanized.

"Operation Kindness wants to literally turn these dynamics upside down. We have to push Texas to become a no-kill state and in order to accomplish that, we have to focus in our own 'back yard' first. Operation Kindness already accepts fifty percent of our dogs and cats from city shelters and we want to see this percentage increase as one step in helping reduce our area's euthanasia rates. Rather than euthanizing 75% of healthy animals, our community needs to be saving 90% or more. It's totally doable as many cities across the nation - including several in Central Texas - are already there." Milacek notes.

Hanophy comes to Operation Kindness from the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) - an agency focused on assisting individuals with disabilities find jobs through vocational rehabilitation, ensuring that they live independently within their communities. DARS also assists families with children dealing with disabilities and delays in development to reach their full potential.

"Jim's experience at DARS aligns well with his duties as Operation Kindness CEO where he will continue advocating on behalf of those with unique life challenges," says Milacek.

At DARS since 2006, Jim's group provided services to 85,000 people annually and he was responsible for a budget of $235 million. Hanophy helped craft and advocate for federal legislation, wrote and oversaw multiple successful grant applications at DARS and other organizations and was very comfortable as the public face of his organization.

"Jim has the specific strengths we felt were key to this position," says Milacek. "Among them are his legislative background, his executive leadership experience and his potential to maximize community and partnership opportunities to achieve critical initiatives like becoming a no-skill state."
